1. Choose the booking mode

You set the mode for a class type and can change it for a specific session. That way solo classes and partner courses share one schedule.

  • No roles: a regular booking with a capacity limit.
  • Roles: participants choose to lead or follow and book alone or with a partner.
  • Pairs only: booking requires a partner in the opposite role, and the number of places must be even.

2. Set the role balance rule

In roles mode you choose one of two rules. Limits for each role set how many leads and how many follows can book; together they cannot exceed the class capacity. A maximum role difference lets people book freely until one role outnumbers the other by more than the number you set.

With the difference rule you can set an activation threshold. The rule applies only after a set number of bookings, so the first people are not blocked in an empty class.

Studio checks the roles participants choose, not their gender. The class offer shows the role balance, so participants can see straight away whether there is a place for their role.

3. Booking with your own partner

Participants can book the person they are coming with: they enter the partner’s full name and role, and Studio creates both places at once, either both or neither. The booker confirms that the partner is an adult and has received the school’s booking terms and privacy notice. The confirmation email includes the partner’s name, and if the booker cancels, both places are released together.

Studio does not match partners automatically. Someone without a partner can book alone in roles mode if there is a place for their role.

4. Decide who pays for the partner

In the pass settings, the school decides whether the partner pays the school directly or whether the booker’s pass can cover the partner’s place. An unlimited or unpaid pass, or one without a second entry left in its weekly limit, cannot cover the partner.

Participants see and confirm the payment plan before booking. On the attendance list, staff see both roles and the pair’s payments, and can cancel just the partner’s place if needed.

5. Roles and the waitlist

When there is no place for the chosen role, participants can pick another role or join the waitlist if the school has enabled it. A pair waits together and is booked only when two matching places open. The accepted partner payment plan is kept on the waitlist and checked again at booking.

Staff can change a booked participant’s role. Studio then checks the balance rules and reviews the waitlist again, because the change may free a place for someone waiting.

Frequently asked questions

Does Studio match partners automatically?

No. Participants can book the person they are coming with, or book alone in roles mode if there is a place for their role.

Do roles depend on participants’ gender?

No. Studio checks the role the participant chooses, lead or follow, not their gender. The class offer shows the role balance, so it is clear straight away whether there is a place for a given role.

What happens if the person who booked the pair cancels?

Both places are released together. If needed, staff can cancel just the partner’s place from the attendance list.

Can a pass cover the partner’s place?

Yes, if the school allows it in the pass settings. An unlimited or unpaid pass, or one without a second entry left in its weekly limit, cannot cover the partner.
